Aston Villa’s £9 million bid for Championship star knocked back

A report from Sky Sports News (via Birmingham Live) has claimed that Aston Villa’s first bid for Brentford playmaker Said Benrahma has been turned down by the Championship club.

It was reported here on The72 on Sunday that Aston Villa had lodged a £9 million bid for Brentford playmaker Said Benrahma, and it has been reported today (Monday) that the bid has been turned down.

Aston Villa are looking to get transfer business done quickly this summer as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. Birmingham City winger Jota has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the club and Anwar El-Ghazi has joined the club on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell with the club.

Now, it has been claimed that Villa have lodged a bid for Brentford star Said Benrahma – believed to be in the £9 million region. The Bees have turned down the offer from Aston Villa and are likely to demand a large fee for the 23-year-old this summer.

Benrahma attracted significant transfer interest in the January transfer window and it was reported here on The72 that Brentford had slapped a £30 million price tag on the Algerian’s head to fend off lurking clubs.

The playmaker netted 11 goals and providing 17 assists in 45 games across all competitions, coming into his element under the management of Thomas Frank. He has previously said that he is keen to play in the Premier League, but went on to add that he is hoping to do that with Brentford.

I would love to play in the Premier League one day, and I don’t see any reason why that can’t be with Brentford. Any player wants to test themselves at the highest level,” Benrahma said back in February
