It is always a risk to spend big to bring success, calculated but a risk all the same. Many football clubs do it, some are lucky and it pays off – others aren’t and have to reshuffle and adjust.
Now, I am not saying that Forest’s gamble in brining in the likes of Joao Carvalho, Lewis Grabban and El Arbi Soudani hasn’t worked, or that the calculated risk they took in doing so has failed.
Forest’s expenditure on that trio was in the region of the £20million mark, with Portuguese youngster Carvalho alone costing the Reds a club record £13.5million fee.
Grabban’s transfer from Bournemouth totalled a shade over £6million according to reports and Soudani was reported to have cost in the region of £2million. Add all that up, plus other incomings and such, and it is not beyond to bounds of possibility to see why some might be worried about FFP implications.
Earlier this morning, Sun reporter Alan Nixon posted the following to his personal Twitter account, some we at The72 wrote about here.
FOREST. Owner Markinakis looking at taking some players to other club Olympiacos. Soudani one Carvalhal maybe. Others could go. Helps finances.

News that Carvalho might be on the list of players that club owner Evangelos Marinakis is looking to move out to tandem club Olympiacos is not what they wanted to wake up to on a Sunday morning.
It is certainly a situation that is bound to bring a degree of complaint from Nottingham Forest fans. Paying out £13.5million for a creative playmaker, and then reading the possibility that he may be moved elsewhere, hasn’t gone down too well.
Below is a selection of just how some fans are responding to the news that is currently bubbling under.
Carvalho to move around – fan reactions
Hope not Carvalho. Should be building the team round him

Is this a case of selling in order to buy or simply selling to balance the books? Two very different scenarios
— James Barlow (@JBarlow92) June 9, 2019
Joke if that’s true. How can you build a team when you’re offloading your best players the whole time. 🖕🏻

Cant see Carvalho going tbh, but Soudani yes I can.
