Former Arsenal striker emerges as shock contender for Swansea job

Thierry Henry has emerged as a shock contender for the Swansea job according to Wales Online.

The former Arsenal striker is now being linked with the managerial post at the Liberty Stadium. He is currently joint second favourite to take the reins along with Gus Poyet.

Despite his relative inexperience at management level his clear pedigree at the highest level and his connections with top clubs around the world could cause Swansea fans to take note.

The search for Graham Potter who left for Brighton and Hove Albion continues to linger on and fans of the Welsh club will be looking for a managerial appointment sooner rather than later.

Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon and Michael Appleton who is currently without a club after leaving his post assisting Jimmy Shan with West Brom at the end of the season are both also in contention for the job.

Henry was sacked by Monaco in January following a poor run of form but his knowledge of the game is indisputable. He also worked with the former Swans boss Roberto Martinez at Belgium so he has experience at international level as well.

The 41 year old may be a good appointment should he land the job however Swansea will be looking to have a more successful season in the Championship in 2019/20 with promotion never really on the cards last season despite being relegated the previous season.

The Welsh club will be looking to reinvest in the current squad of players and pushing towards the play offs at the very least which is why their next choice of manager could prove crucial.
