As reported on The72 this week, Premier League side Watford are interested in signing Middlesbrough youngster Marcus Tavernier.
Now according to The Northern Echo, the Middlesbrough attacking midfielder is also wanted by recently promoted side Aston Villa.
Villa have recently let former-Boro flanker Albert Adomah leave the club after not offering an extension to his current deal, and Tavernier could be seen as a long term replacement for the Ghanaian international.
Tavernier has been in and around the first team at Middlesbrough since making his debut in the 2017-18 season under manager Garry Monk. Since then he has made a name for himself at Boro, scoring three goals in three starts in the league.
Interestingly, Aston Villa have also expressed an interest in Rangers full-back James Tavernier, Marcus’ brother. The ‘Gers have seen a multitude of clubs keen on their defender in recent windows, but that number will certainly grow this summer, after Tavernier scored 14 goals last season in the Scottish Premier League.
But brother Marcus has been making a name for himself at Middlesbrough, and previous manager Tony Pulis even expressed his dissatisfaction that Tavernier wasn’t given enough chances in the first team last season, despite making 30 appearances in all competitions.
The youngster is valued at just £900,000 by Transfermarkt, but Middlesbrough will certainly be hoping for more of substantial offer if they are to part ways with one of their prized assets.
Given he is still only 20-years old, the Boro hierarchy may want to keep hold of one of their potential future stars.
