Tranmere Rovers set sights on two strikers

Tranmere Rovers are showing an interest in Wigan Athletic’s Callum Lang and AFC Fylde’s Danny Rowe.

The Whites were promoted to League One last weekend and are planning for life in the third tier by targeting some attacking reinforcements, according to Roversrearguard.

Tranmere are bracing themselves to lose last season’s top scorer, James Norwood, who is set to join Ipswich Town.

Lang, who is 20 years-old, could leave Championship side Wigan on loan again for the next campaign to gain some more first-team experience.

He spent last season on loan at Oldham Athletic in League Two and scored 16 goals for the Latics in all competitions. He had spent the year previously at Morecambe, where he bagged 10 goals.

Lang has so far made three appearances for Wigan’s senior side in his career but may have one more loan spell away before becoming a regular starter for Paul Cook’s side.

Danny Rowe is another player on Micky Mellon’s radar. He scored 27 goals for AFC Fylde last season and helped them win the FA Trophy and get to the National League Play-Offs.

He has been one of the most prolific strikers in non-league over the past few years and deserves a crack at the Football League.

There is no doubt that League One will be tough for Tranmere next season, especially if they lose Norwood over the coming months. However, signing Lang and Rowe would be good business by the Prenton Park club and give them a decent chance of staying up.
