Barnsley winger to undergo medical with Scottish Premiership side

Football Insider has reported that Barnsley winger Ryan Hedges is set to join Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on a free transfer.

Barnsley winger Ryan Hedges will undergo a medical with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen with a deal set to be completed soon. He will link up with Derek McInnes’ side this summer ahead of the 2019/10 Scottish Premiership season.

Hedges’ contract at Oakwell with Barnsley expires at the end of June and despite Barnsley reportedly being keen for the 23-year-old to put pen to paper on a new deal with the club, he has opted to make a move away from the newly promoted side.

He will be hoping that his move to Pittodrie will bring him some more first-team game time next season – providing that the deal goes through and he successfully completes a medical with Aberdeen.

The Welshman was used sporadically by Daniel Stendel over the course of the 2018/19 season, making 25 appearances across all competitions, with 17 of those coming off the bench. Hedges scored one goal and providing three assists.

He joined Barnsley back in 2017 from Swansea City and has played a total of 59 games across all competitions for the Tykes.

The winger started his senior career playing for Flint Town United before moving to Swansea City in 2013. Hedges didn’t make any appearances for the first-team at Swansea, spending time out on loan with football league clubs Leyton Orient, Stevenage and Yeovil Town prior to making his move to Barnsley.
