Aston Villa release eight players including Albert Adomah and Mile Jedinak

Aston Villa have announced that they have released eight players this summer including the likes of Albert Adomah and Mile Jedinak as confirmed by the club website.

It has been a great season for the Villains. After a poor start which saw previous head coach Steve Bruce being sacked, new manager Dean Smith came in and turned the team around, guiding them to promotion via a play-off final victory against Derby County. While they are now going to return to the Premier League, several of the players who helped them get promoted have now been released at the end of their contracts.

One of the biggest names to be leaving is Adomah. The 31-year-old winger came to Villa from Middlesbrough as part of a swap deal with Adama Traore and he would turn out to be a very good replacement with his pace on the wings being devastating to many Championship defences. Another player to be released is Jedinak. He was a leader of men in the Villa midfield and became a fan favourite because of the amount of effort he put into every match.

The other players to be released this summer are Alan Hutton, Tommy Elphick, Glenn Whelan, Ritchie De Laet, Mark Bunn and Micah Richards. Hutton has been at Villa Park since 2011 and has always been able to get himself back in the first team despite numerous spells on the sidelines. Elphick ended his career with Villa with an injury after suffering a torn ligament back in March.
