Former Middlesbrough man on radar of Spanish giants Barcelona

According to Spanish publication Marca, Spanish giants Barcelona are eyeing up a move for former Middlesbrough striker Christhian Stuani.

The 32-year-old Uruguayan joined Middlesbrough from La Liga outfit Espanyol in the summer of 2015 for a fee in the region of €3 million after scoring 29 goals in 117 appearances during a six-year stint that included loan spells at Levante, Albacete and Racing Santander.

However, Stuani failed to impress during his two-year spell at the Riverside despite showing glimpses of his talent and was offloaded in 2017 after scoring just 16 goals in 68 matches for the Teessiders.

With his career on the decline Stuani needed to hit the ground running at new club Girona and he did just that, bagging 21 goals in 33 appearances during his first season back in Spain before netting another 19 this term, although his efforts in front of goal weren’t enough to stop the club dropping back into the Segunda Division.

This impressive spell of form has attracted interest from a host of big clubs. Stuani addressed the speculation during the recent international break, stating “I’ve scored a lot of goals and its striking. There are clubs who like me and that’s a compliment.”

The 32-year-old did also state that he is yet to sit down and address the recent flurry of interest with Girona, although it seems unlikely the Uruguayan will be content with playing second division next term.

Barcelona raised eyebrows last summer when they signed Ghanaian forward Kevin Prince-Boateng so a move for Stuani wouldn’t be completely unlikely this time around..
