Birmingham City winger signs new contract

Promising young winger Olly McCoy has signed a new deal with Birmingham City confirmed by the Blues official website.

McCoy who was due to be out of contract at the end of next month has signed a new 12 month deal with the Midlands club.

He made 31 appearances for the Under 23’s last season and was among one of the first names on their team sheet.

McCoy had a number of impressive performances and was instrumental in helping the squad to the PDL North runners-up spot and the Final of the National Play-Offs.

He was signed from Southern League where he plied his trade with Beaconsfield. At just 21 years of age he is already showing tremendous promise and could soon be progressing and forcing his way closer to the first team.

The youngster has emerged as one of the most consistent, and dangerous, attacking midfielders for the Under-23s, developing in all areas of his game since he was signed at the end of 2016/17 season after a successful trial period with the club.

It has been a long and difficult road for McCoy who almost gave up on professional football when he encountered knockbacks before his breakthrough. However, his persistence paid off and he’s now one of the brightest young prospects at the club.

There have been a number of Under 23s players recently commit their future to the club and this can only prove to be a good thing for the Midlanders if they can retain their academy players who can provide fresh competition for the first team squad.
