Blackburn Rovers looking at move for young Premier League striker

The Lancashire Telegraph has said that Blackburn Rovers are considering a move to bring Everton striker Bassala Sambou to Ewood Park this summer.

Blackburn Rovers have been linked with a move for Everton’s young striker Bassala Sambou, as Tony Mowbray looks to reinforce his attacking options ahead of the 2019/20 Championship season.

It was reported here on The72 back in March that Sambou was on the radar of Rovers. Now, it has emerged once again that the club could look to make a move for the striker. Sambou’s contract at Goodison Park is set to expire this summer and they have not yet reached an agreement over a new deal.

The youngster has previously worked with Tony Mowbray when he was in the youth set-up at Coventry City at the time Mowbray was in charge, and they could be reunited this summer. He played one time for the Sky Blues after coming through the youth academy before moving to Everton.

Rovers currently have Danny Graham, Ben Brereton, Joe Nuttall and Dominic Samuel on the books as strikers. Mowbray is looking to bring in a young option to provide competition for Graham, while Brereton continues his development after a challenging first season at Ewood Park.

Sambou played 25 games in all competitions for Everton’s Under-23s side over the course of the 2018/19 season, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists. He has played 60 games in the Premier League 2 in total and could make the step up to senior football next season, after playing in the EFL Trophy against League One and League Two opposition this season, scoring two goals in three games.
