Blackburn Rovers and QPR keen on Holland international midfielder

Blackburn Rovers and QPR have both been credited with an interest in AZ Alkmaar midfielder Adam Maher.

The Holland international is leaving the Eredivisie side when his contract expires and is attracting Championship interest, according to a report by the Lancashire Telegraph.

There is also believed to be interest in him from Celtic, Vitesse, Fenerbache and Brescia.

Maher, who is 25-years-old, made 29 appearances for AZ in the past season in all competitions, scoring once and gaining five assists.

He started his career at AZ at went onto play 94 games for them as a youngster, scoring 22 goals before he was snapped up by PSV in July 2013 for €6.5 million on a five-year contract.

Maher won the Eredivisie twice during his time at the Philips Stadion but fell down the pecking order there in 2015 so was loaned out to Turkish side Osmanlıspor.

He then signed for fellow Eredivisie side FC Twente before returning to AZ in September last year on a contract until the end of the season.

Maher, who has made five caps for Holland, is now looking forward to the next chapter of his career. Blackburn is a potential destination for him as they are in the hunt for some midfield reinforcements this summer. Tony Mowbray wants some more creativity in his side and he fits the bill for the Lancashire side.

Rovers will have to see off interest from QPR for Maher though as Mark Warburton eyes his first potential signings at Loftus Road.
