Birmingham City keen on move for recently relegated shot-stopper

According to the Daily Star (report via Birmingham Live), Birmingham City are interested in Ipswich Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski is attracting Championship interest upon Ipswich Town’s relegation to League One, and it has now been reported that Birmingham City are one of the sides looking at the Poland international.

It was reported earlier this week that Bartosz Bialkowski was on the radar of three unnamed Championship clubs. Bialkowski could make a return to the Championship this summer and it will reportedly cost any buying clubs £1.5 million to secure his services ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Birmingham will have to contend with ongoing financial fair play problems this summer and will be looking to keep their business as cheap as possible. While a deal for Bialkowski would cost more than a free transfer or loan deal, the signing of the experienced ‘keeper for under £2 million would be a shrewd bit of business by Garry Monk.

With Bialkowski’s departure a possibility and Dean Gerken being released upon the end of his contract with Ipswich, the Tractor Boys have not wasted any time in bringing a new ‘keeper through the doors at Portman Road. They confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Tomas Holy from Gillingham on Friday afternoon.

Bialkowski has been the number one goalkeeper at Ipswich Town for some time now, winning three consecutive player of the year awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018 for his impressive performances in between the sticks. Overall, he has played for the club on 178 occasions but found himself in and out of the side last season.

The 31-year-old played 28 times in a dismal Championship campaign for Ipswich, with Dean Gerken also featuring occasionally throughout.
