Plymouth Argyle set to appoint Bury boss as new manager

Plymouth Argyle are set to appoint Bury’s Ryan Lowe as their new head coach according to a report from the Plymouth Herald.

The Pilgrims have been without a manager since the end of April when Derek Adams left after a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley. In the end, the change in manager did nothing to change Plymouth’s fate and they were relegated from Sky Bet League One after finishing 21st in the division, something that was devastating to the club.

And they will soon appoint Adams’ replacement with Lowe set to come in and become their new manager. While he has been the favourite for the job for a while, it is still rather surprising to see him leave Bury. He is a legend there after being one of their best players in recent years before becoming their manager and leading them to promotion from Sky Bet League Two despite all of their financial problems. But it appears those problems and the unclear future of Bury football club have encouraged Lowe to make the jump and head south to Plymouth.

Lowe will have a tough job as he will be expected to have Plymouth instantly challenge for promotion back to League One. He had no expectations at Bury because of all of the problems they had faced off the field but at Plymouth there will be none of those distractions. But if Lowe can pull it off and have the Pilgrims challenging for promotion, he’ll be seen as one of the best young managers in the EFL.
