Middlesbrough considering Lincoln City boss for vacant manager role

Plenty of managers names will be thrown into the hat this week, as Middlesbrough look to appoint a new man in charge following the departure of Tony Pulis.

According to Press Association Sport (via Four Four Two), Middlesbrough are considering an approach for Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley, who recently saw his side promoted to the third tier as champions of League Two.

The hierarchy at Boro, including Chairman Steve Gibson, are looking for an “younger, ambitious candidate to take on a long-term project”, and Cowley fits the bill perfectly.

Other reports suggest the Teessider’s have made their mind up on who should replace Tony Pulis, with former central-defender Jonathan Woodgate expected to take the reigns. However, given his lack of managerial experience, Boro could scout other coaches before making their final decision.

With the transfer window officially open this week, they will be hoping to get a new boss in charge as soon as possible to get every chance of getting the players they need through the door.

Cowley is also wanted by another of Tony Pulis’ former clubs West Bromwich Albion, who are without a manager after parting ways with Darren Moore in March. James Shan is currently in temporary charge at The Hawthorns at present, but Chairman Li Piyue is looking to appoint someone at the helm on a permanent basis.

Similarly at Middlesbrough, they will want to get someone confirmed as soon as possible, and a list of names including Chris Hughton, Aitor Karanka and Michael Reiziger has been drawn up.
