Brentford set to beat Burnley and Huddersfield Town to signing of Hibernian defender

Brentford are set to beat Burnley and Huddersfield Town to the signing of Hibernian’s Kane O’Connor according to a report from Edinburgh Live.

The 18-year-old defender has been a professional at Hiberian since the start of 2017 and had been pegged as a potential star of the future for them. Despite those hopes, there were plenty of other young players in his position and likely to get the nod in the first team before him. This meant he had to watch Hibernian winning the Youth Cup from the bench and why a move away was always likely.

Because of his talent, plenty of teams from south of the border were interested in signing O’Connor. He would end up spending time training with three teams before deciding who would sign for this summer. He ended up training with two teams that at the time were in the Premier League, Burnley and Huddersfield, as well as one team in the Sky Bet Championship which was Brentford.

And while the former two had Premier League pedigree on their side, though Huddersfield have been relegated since, O’Connor has reportedly decided that he will be moving to Brentford this summer. This report states that the reason for this is because he sees a clearer route to the first team at the Bees and that he believes he will get that chance with the senior squad quicker with them. O’Connor will be going into the Brentford B squad when he moves to West London and will hope to impress there.
