Top 50 Players of the EFL – 25th: Mason Mount (Derby County)

Derby County midfielder Mason Mount has been voted by you as the 25th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Mount is the 25th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

Chelsea’s academy is full of talented players, not that you’d know from their first team as they never get a chance to play for them. However that might change in future because Chelsea have been placed under a transfer embargo meaning that if players do leave, like Eden Hazard, they will have to look at their academy players to take a step up instead of just signing another player. Perhaps that’s why so many Chelsea loanees have been playing so well in the EFL this season, with Patrick Bamford already getting on this list in 33rd place.

Mount is another player who was sent out on loan from Chelsea and was playing for Derby this season. While he had never made a senior appearance before then, he had been rated as one of the top prospects in the Chelsea academy and he definitely showed that while he was at the Rams. In the 42 appearances he made for them this season, he scored an impressive 10 goals. His season is not over yet as he is set to play for Derby tonight in their play-off match against Leeds.
