Mansfield Town fans react to the appointment of John Dempster as manager

Mansfield Town sacked David Flitcroft yesterday after they failed to gain promotion from League Two this season.

The Stags narrowly missed out on automatic promotion and then lost to Newport County over two legs in the Play-Offs.

The fourth tier side wasted no time in appointing a successor to Flitcroft and immediately turned to academy manager John Dempster to take the reigns.

It will be the 36-year-old’s first managerial role. He spent three years as a player at Field Mill as well as having spells at Oxford United and Crawley Town.

Dempster retired from playing in 2014 and became Mansfield’s academy manager. He was placed in caretaker charge in February 2018 before Flitcroft was appointed.

Their chairman, John Radford, has said, as per their official club website: “In John, we have a man who is considered to be one of the brightest and most innovative young coaches in football. His success with the youth team over the past few seasons has been remarkable and he now deserves the opportunity to manage the first team”

“John will have our full backing. He is appointed as manager of a club which is widely considered as one of the best operations in football.”

Here is how the Mansfield fans have reacted on Twitter to the appointment of John Dempster as manager:
