Top 50 Players of the EFL – 37th: Danny Mayor (Bury)

Bury winger Danny Mayor has been voted by you as the 37th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Mayor is the 37th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

In an area where players move around as much as possible in order to get the most money as possible, Mayor is one of the most loyal players in recent years. Despite the number of problems Bury have had over the years, the 28-year-old winger has been a mainstay for the Shakers. He signed on loan in 2013 from Sheffield Wednesday and he made that deal permanent the following summer. And while he’s had his ups and downs since, he came into this season hoping to get Bury promoted from Sky Bet League Two.

And he did exactly that with his performances being a critical reason as to why they were able to finish second and seal automatic promotion this season. In a year where Bury fans dreaded every bit of news about their club due to their financial problems, Mayor made sure those same fans were just as keen to see every match they could. In the 44 appearances he made this season, he scored twelve times including strikes in crucial end of the season matches against Northampton Town and Tranmere Rovers.
