Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 7th: Mick Harford (Luton Town)

Luton Town head coach Mick Harford has been voted by you as the 11th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Harford is the 7th best manager in the Football League. He is a new addition to this list.
When Nathan Jones decided to leave Luton halfway through the season in order to take the Stoke City job, lots within the club were worried. Jones was the reason they were promoted from Sky Bet League Two and the reason they had been challenging at the top of Sky Bet League One. But while they looked for the man who would continue Jones’ good work, they placed Harford in caretaker charge. He had after all had experience in managing Luton before and had even won the Johnstone Paints Trophy with them.
Harford’s second stint with the club went much better than anyone could have imagined. He was able to make the Luton team even better than they were under Jones and move them to the top of League One. And as soon as Harford got them there, they didn’t look like budging even under pressure from teams such as Sunderland, Portsmouth and Barnsley. They would eventually become the Champions of League One and seal an unlikely promotion to the Sky Bet Championship. Harford is planning to leave the club this summer so he will not be continuing despite this achievement.
