Sheffield United release five players and place seven more on transfer list

Sheffield United have confirmed on their club website that they are set to release five players and have also placed seven players on the transfer list.

The Blades achieved promotion this season to the Premier League after spending just two years in the Sky Bet Championship, a stunning achievement for the club. After celebrating with a parade in the centre of Sheffield yesterday, the club are now preparing for their return to the top tier by getting rid of some of their players.

First off, they have announced the five players they will be letting go at the end of their contracts. These players are Paul Coutts, Martin Cranie, Conor Washington, Daniel Lafferty and Caolan Lavery. The one United fans will be sad to say goodbye to is Coutts. He has been an impressive player during his time at Bramall Lane and was even able to return to top form after breaking his tibia kept him out for the majority of the 2017/18 season. However, seeing the other players leave will be no surprise as all as none of them have been regulars for the club this season.

But they aren’t the only players who will be leaving United this summer. The club are also looking to ship more out after placing seven players on the transfer list. These players are Leon Clarke, Jake Wright, Ched Evans, Samir Carruthers, Nathan Thomas, Ben Heneghan and Ricky Holmes.

On these departures, United head coach Chris Wilder said: “We have had a fantastic season and I’ve thanked the players for their contribution but attentions have quickly turned to what is set to be another exciting campaign.”
