Leeds United’s wantaway playmaker linked with unlikely move to Europa League semi-finalists

According to El Gol Digital, Europa League semi-finalists Valencia are interested in signing Leeds United’s loaned out attacking midfielder Samu Saiz in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Samu Saiz left Leeds United in the January transfer window to to return to his home country Spain after becoming unsettled in England. He agreed a loan deal with La Liga side Getafe until the end of the season, but he has struggled to impress on his return to the club.

Saiz spent a short time with Getafe from 2012 to 2013, making his La Liga debut for the club in a 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in January 2012. However, his return to the club has not gone as planned. The 28-year-old has only played eight La Liga games in his time with the club, starting in just two games.

Getafe are highly unlikely to make Saiz’s loan move permanent at the end of the season, but the playmaker could still be set to remain in Spain. Europa League semi-finalists Valencia are reportedly interested in making a permanent move for the Leeds United man, as they weigh up a £5.5 million move.

Given that he has failed to make an impact at Getafe since joining at the start of January, it seems surprising that Valencia would be eyeing up a move for the 28-year-old.

But, if their interest in Saiz is genuine, a deal could be agreed quickly. Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is keen to shift a number of players on this summer and Saiz is determined to make a permanent move back to his home country.
