Carlisle United release eight players including Anthony Gerrard and Gary Liddle

Carlisle United have announced on the club website that they have released eight players.

With it being the end of the season, clubs across the country are starting to announce which players they have decided to release at the end of their contracts. Carlisle are the latest team to announce their retain list and they will be letting go of eight players this summer.

The biggest name to be let go is Anthony Gerrard, a veteran defender who has played for clubs across the EFL. The 33-year-old defender had been a regular for the Cumbrians this season but despite that, the club thought it is best for them that they go their separate ways. One of the other players leaving is Gary Liddle who has also been a regular since signing for them from Chesterfield but is also going to have to look for a new club.

The other players that have been released are Richie Bennett, George Glendon, Arthur Gnahoua, Peter Grant, Jason Kennedy and Gary Miller. Bennett had been a regular for Carlisle since joining from Barrow but now has been released. Glendon, on the other hand, had struggled and his departure will be of very little surprise. Gnahoua had only made one appearance before being released and while Grant had made a few more than that, four appearances in total, he is also leaving. Kennedy had been a regular in the past but found himself watching on for most of this season while Miller had been a useful squad player this season but still finds himself released.
