Leeds United decision already made on loanee signing

The teamsheet that Leeds United submitted today for their last game of the season against Ipswich presents very few surprises. Yet, it does put forward one sign on the future of one player in particular.

Izzy Brown. The Chelsea loanee, who the Whites brought in on a season-long loan deal as recuperation from an injury, his absence from the bench could be interpreted as fait accompli on his season at Elland Road.

Leeds, and their medical team, nurtured Brown back from the injury he suffered and got him match fit. He’s been turning out regularly for the Under-23s and has been getting on the scoresheet.

However, despite making the bench on a number of occasions for the first team, Brown has made just one appearance for Leeds United – a nine-minute appearance in the 1-0 loss against QPR away.

He made the bench for the last game against Aston Villa, a match that became a Battle Royale experience after Mateusz Klich’s hotly-contested opening goal for the Whites. His absence today might be interpreted along the lines that the club have already decided that his future lays back with Chelsea.

Brown’s absence, coupled with Tyler Roberts’ injury and Leeds’ decision to promote youngster Ryan Edmondson to the bench, seems to show that Leeds United have made their mind up on this matter.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the Whites may be looking at bringing him back next year as an option, but that possibility looks remote to say the least at the moment.
