AFC Bournemouth tracking Middlesbrough winger

AFC Bournemouth are tracking Middlesbrough winger Marcus Tavernier.

The 20-year-old has emerged as a potential summer signing for the Premier League side, according to a report by The Sun.

Boro could turn their attention to Celtic winger Scott Sinclair if the Cherries lure Tavernier away from the Riverside, as reported by The72 yesterday.

Bournemouth have adopted their transfer policy over recent times to signing promising players so Tavernier fits the bill. The top flight side signed David Brooks from Sheffield United last summer and Chris Mepham from Brentford in the January transfer window.

Tavernier, who is the brother of Rangers defender James Tavernier, has a contract at Middlesbrough until 2021. He has played 28 games in all competitions this season, chipping in with five goals and three assists for Tony Pulis’ Play-Off chasing side.

He started his career as a youngster at Newcastle United before making the switch to Boro in 2013. He made his first-team debut for the North-East side in August 2017 in a league cup tie against Scunthorpe United.

Tavernier scored his first goal for Boro against Bournemouth coincidently in October 2017. He made eight appearances last season and scored twice. He then spent the second half of the campaign on loan at MK Dons to gain some more senior football experience but he couldn’t prevent them from slipping into League Two.

Middlesbrough could face a battle to hold onto the youngster over the coming months with Bournemouth lurking.
