Norwich City have made a move to sign Rennes’ Mehdi Zeffane according to a report from French publication Le 10 Sport.
The Canaries sealed their promotion to the Premier League on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. And with their fate sealed, they have got to work to get their squad ready for the top tier. They have already been linked with a move for Rotherham United’s Semi Ajayi and this latest report has linked them with a move for Zeffane who currently plays in France for Rennes.
The 26-year-old defender, who has been capped by Algeria 11 times, started his career with French giants Lyon before moving to Europa League side Rennes in 2015. He signed a four-year contract with the Breton club but that expires this summer, meaning he could end up leaving them on a free transfer. That is certainly the case with Norwich. Reports have suggested they will be operating with a smaller budget than many of their Premier League rivals so will need to grab bargains like this in order to stay up.
According to this report from France, Norwich have made some enquiries about if they will be able to sign Zeffane and they could make a more concrete contract offer later on. They aren’t the only team that are interested in signing the defender though so they might have to make him a good offer if they want him to make Carrow Road his home for the next few years.
