Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Aston Villa youngsters all targeted in the summer

Nottingham Forest’s Adam Crookes, West Brom’s Kyle Howkins and Aston Villa’s Mitch Clark all targeted by Port Vale manager John Askey for next season, according to Stoke on Trent Live.

Nottingham Forest’s Adam Crookes, West Brom’s Kyle Howkins and Aston Villa’s Mitch Clark all targeted by Port Vale manager John Askey for next season. The trio are all currently on loan at the League Two side this season and John Askey has admitted he’d like to bring them back to the football club next season.

John Askey told Stoke on Trent Live: “To have a back four with an average age of 21 play so well and look so solid bodes well. Although three of those are on loan, I am sure that the football club will be looking to secure the services of, if not all three, one or two of them.”

“But it was really pleasing because at that age it is not easy to play in League Two. You can see them coming on. I think Mitch Clark has come on leaps and bounds in these last few weeks. Adam has always been steady and has slotted in well at left back, and it will be interesting to see how Kyle does now.”

At the weekend, Port Vale’s Tom Pope scored a last minute winner with his first touch as John Askey’s side picked up all three points at Northampton, even though they played over half the game with 10 men.

That result has left Port Vale eight points clear of the relegation zone and with six games remaining should retain their Football League status.
