Loan club not planning to sign Nottingham Forest defender permanently

Football Insider has reported that Scottish Premiership side Rangers will not move to make Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall’s loan spell at Ibrox permanent at the end of the season.

Rangers will not look to make Joe Worrall’s loan spell away from parent club Nottingham Forest permanent at the end of the season, a report from Football Insider has said.

The original loan deal agreed between the two clubs did not have an option to bring Worrall to Rangers on a permanent basis, nor did it have a set figure if they wanted to do so. However, a permanent move was considered by the club before opting against it.

Fellow loaned in defender Connor Goldson is now reportedly the club’s number one target as Steven Gerrard looks to bring in a centre-back on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has made 30 appearances for Rangers since moving to Ibrox on loan for the 2018/19 Scottish Premiership season on summer transfer deadline day. Worrall also picked up four appearances in the Europa League before they were knocked out at the group stage.

Worrall has been on the books at Forest since the age of 14 and spent five years in the academy before breaking through into the first team in the 2016/17 Championship season. By the time he was 21, the defender had played 56 games for Nottingham Forest, making 31 appearances during the 2017/18 Championship campaign.

The youngster has also represented England, playing for the Under-20s and Under-21s. He has played three games for the Under-21s and four times for the Under-20s.
