Swansea City defender discusses contract talks as Aston Villa consider summer move

It has been reported that Aston Villa are interested in centre-back Mike van der Hoorn, who currently plays for fellow Championship side Swansea City.

Mike van der Hoorn’s contract with Swansea City is set to expire at the end of the season, but it was reported here on The72 that he is expected to trigger a one-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.

But, as far as talks regarding a further extension to his deal with Swansea City, van der Hoorn has told Wales Online that there have not been any talks recently.

“It’s quiet,” van der Hoorn said regarding talks over a new deal.

“I’m playing my game and we’ll see at the end of the season. I can’t tell you much more, I think it’s from Swansea, the option, so it’s not my option. They’re going to decide if they want to have me for longer.”

The Dutchman added that he did hold talks over a two-year extension prior to the departure of former club chairman Huw Jenkins, who left the club after the closure of the January transfer window.

“There were talks when Huw Jenkins was here that we would extend the contract by two more years. Obviously, he has gone and I haven’t heard anything yet so we will see.

“I’ve got my ambitions and we just need to be on the same page.”

The 26-year-old has said that he is enjoying football once again under Graham Potter, after a difficult two years in the Premier League under Francesco Guidolin, Bob Bradley, Paul Clement and Carlos Carvahal.

“It’s very enjoyable.  If you see me play, I play with more courage and I’m enjoying it more.”
