Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday plotting moves for French shot-stopper

According to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, Rio Aves goalkeeper Quentin Beunardeau is catching the eyes of Championship duo Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.

Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday are interested in goalkeeper Quentin Beunardeau – who is currently playing for Portuguese side Rio Aves.

The shot-stopper has been a strong performer for Rio Aves throughout this season in the Primeira Liga. The club are currently sat in 12th place in the table out fo 16 teams, but they remain only one point away from the drop zone. Beunardeau’s performances in a struggling side have seen him catch the eyes of a number of sides across Europe.

He only joined the club in the previous summer transfer window, but that might not be enough for Rio Aves keep hold of their man with interest growing. French sides OGC Nice and Montpellier are those named to be also interested in the 25-year-old, along with Villa and Wednesday.

After starting his youth career with French side Le Mans, he signed a professional contract with the club in 2012. But, he only played five times for the first team and played most of his football with the club’s B-team.

Beunardeau then moved on to Nancy where he also mainly played for the club’s B-team, making just one first-team appearance. He spent the 2015/16 season on loan with Tubize – where he went on to remain permanently after an impressive stint. Overall, he played 61 games for the club over the course of two years with the club.

He earned a move to FC Metz in 2017 but once again failed to break into the first-team, before being sold to Rio Aves last summer.

Could the French shot-stopper make the move back to his native? Or will he make the move to England for the first time in his career?
