Derby County playmaker “ready to go” after extended injury absence

Derby County manager Frank Lampard has said that playmaker Mason Mount is ready and raring to go, as he looks set to return from injury against Rotherham United tonight.

Derby County midfielder Mason Mount is set to return to the squad tomorrow when they play against Rotherham United.

Mount has been out of the squad through injury for the majority of 2019 but manager Frank Lampard has said that the Chelsea loanee will be coming back tomorrow.

“Mason is ready to go,” said Lampard to the Derby Telegraph.

“It’s great to have him back.

“He has missed a lot of football and he is a hungry boy, so he wants to play and I hope we see that because I know how frustrated he has been in the last two months. I used to feel that as a player. We know his qualities.”

Lampard went on to add that he hopes Mount can emulate Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish in boosting his side’s play-off hopes upon returning from injury.

“Grealish is one of the best players in the League, on his game,” Lampard added.

“I think also Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause, who Villa brought in during January, made them very strong and that is an obvious factor. Grealish, of course, is the icing on the cake, as such, and Mason can be that – and we need him to be, as simple as that.”

The former Chelsea midfielder said that he thinks Mount will be able to handle the pressure of returning to the team at such an important time of the season.

“He needs pressure, he is that good,” Lampard added.

“I like to test him, to push him. He needs to come back firing, he needs to score and assist for us to get us into the play-offs. He has got all the ability to do that, so there is no harm in telling him that.”
