Blackburn Rovers bring 18-year-old National League North starlet in on trial

The Lancashire Telegraph has reported that Nuneaton Borough striker Taylor Allen has joined Championship side Blackburn Rovers on trial.

Blackburn Rovers have brought in non-league youngster Taylor Allen in on trial from National League North side Nuneaton Borough, it has been reported.

It is believed that Allen joined Rovers earlier on this week, possibly featuring in a behind closed doors friendly on Thursday.

The attacker only joined Nuneaton during the January transfer window, signing from low league side Romulus. 18-year-old Allen signed a deal with the National League North side after putting on a strong performance in a trial game, in which he netted a hat-trick in a 3-2 win.

Earlier this month, Allen spent a short period of time on trial with Premier League side Leicester City, where he featured in an Under-23s game against Tottenham Hotspur. The game finished 2-1 and Allen has since returned to Nuneaton.

Since his move to Nuneaton Borough from Romulus, Allen has featured nine times for the club, providing one assist along the way. He put in a man of the match performance on his debut for his new side as they drew 2-2 with Hereford.

The striker is likely to join up with the club’s Under-23s side, where a number of Rovers’ most highly rated youngsters have featured this season. Young players have come into Tony Mowbray’s first-team plans this season, with Tyler Magloire and John Buckley both making their debuts in recent weeks.

Allen won’t be able to play for the first-team this season, but should he join Rovers permanently, he will be able to play for the club’s Under-23s.
