Middlesbrough at risk of losing three youngsters to Premier League elite

As reported on The72 this week, Middlesbrough youngster Bilal Brahimi looks set to join Ligue 1 side Rennes at the end of the season, but he is also interesting Premier League leaders Liverpool.

But it not just Brahimi at Middlesbrough that is attracting attention from the Premier League, with Stephen Walker being scouted by both Jurgen Klopp’s side and Manchester United. Nathan Wood and Marcus Tavernier are two other teenagers who are interesting clubs from both ‘home and abroad’, according to The Northern Echo.

Walker is currently on loan at League Two side MK Dons and has recently signed a new long term contract with Middlesbrough to keep him at the club until 2023, meaning Boro could demand a sizeable transfer fee for the 18-year old.

He is the first-choice striker in the England under-19 set up, and has featured in the cup competitions for Tony Pulis’ side this season. Walker was also included on the Boro bench on Boxing Day in their 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Nathan Wood, who has previously been linked to both Manchester clubs, made history this season by becoming Middlesbrough’s youngest ever player to play a competitive game. He has been a huge part of the clubs under-23 programme, and given he is just 16 years old, this speaks volumes of how talented the young centre-back is.

According to the same report in The Northern Echo, Boro are keen to keep hold of the trio amongst interest from the top flight clubs. However, with Pulis recently stating that two youth stars were nearly ready to make the step up into the first team, this could prompt Wood, Walker, Tavernier and Brahimi to stick around.
