Leeds United keeping tabs on £11 million-rated Uruguay World Cup midfielder

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Leeds United have joined a host of Italian Serie A sides in tracking Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

Leeds United are reportedly keeping tabs on Boca Juniors’ Uruguayan international Nahitan Nandez, alongside three Italian Serie A sides.

Tutto Mercato Web writes that Serie A sides Sampdoria and Fiorentina are joined by Leeds United in “studying the situation” of the 23-year-old, while Cagliari could look to pick up from where they left off in January when they held discussions over a possible move.

The Uruguayan currently plays for Argentinian side Boca Juniors, where he has been since joining in 2017. He has played 48 games for the Primera Division side, netting six goals and providing four assists along the way.

Prior to joining Boca Juniors in 2017, Nandez played for Uruguayan Primera Division side Penarol, where he progressed through the youth academy and into the first-team. He made his debut for Penarol in 2014 and went on to play 87 times, scoring eight and assisting 11 goals.

Nandez featured heavily in Uruguay’s 2018 World Cup run last summer, where they made it to the Quarter Finals before being knocked out by eventual winners France. The midfielder played in all five games, starting in four. Overall, he has represented his country 20 times since making his debut in 2015 at the age of 19.

An energetic midfielder, the 23-year-old can play in both centre-midfield or right-midfield. Nandez is a strong tackler and a good passer but has the pace to play out wide when needed. He also captained Uruguay’s Under-20s for much of his youth international career, proving himself as a leader.
