Derby County confirm one-year contract extension for midfielder

Derby County midfielder Tom Huddlestone has had his contract with the Championship side extended by a further 12 months, the club has confirmed via their club website.

Derby County have confirmed on their club website that experienced midfielder Tom Huddlestone triggered a one-year contract extension.

Huddlestone’s contract at Pride Park was set to expire at the end of the season. But, with his new deal signed, it will now run through until the end of the 2019/20 campaign. The extension was automatically extended due to appearance-based incentives, the club has stated.

The 32-year-old has featured in the Championship 22 times under the management of Frank Lampard, playing twice in the FA Cup and twice in the EFL Cup as well.

Huddlestone started his youth career with Derby’s rivals Nottingham Forest, before heading to The Rams academy. He progressed through the club’s youth ranks and made his way into the first team, making his debut at the age of 16 in 2003.

He went on to spend a successful three-year stint with the club before moving on to Tottenham Hotspur. Huddlestone went on to spend eight years with Spurs, playing 209 matches and making all of his four England appearances during his time with the club.

The defensive midfielder moved to Hull City in 2013, where he remained until the end of the 2016/17 season. Over the course of his time at the KCOM Stadium, Huddlestone played 161 games before returning to Derby County during the summer of 2017.

Since his return to Pride Park, Huddlestone has taken his number of appearances for the club to 165 and after extending his day with the club, he will be hoping that he can continue to add to that figure.
