Wigan Athletic line up Coventry City right-back as Reece James replacement

According to The Sun (17/03, page 57), Championship side Wigan Athletic are lining up a summer move for Coventry City’s loaned in right-back Dujon Sterling.

Coventry City right-back Dujon Sterling – who is currently on loan from Premier League side Chelsea – is reportedly on the radar of Championship side Wigan Athletic.

Wigan Athletic will lose current right-back Reece James at the end of the season when he returns to parent club Chelsea after a thoroughly successful loan spell with the Championship side. Now, to fill the gap left by the youngster, Wigan are eyeing up another Chelsea youngster.

Sterling has impressed during his time on loan with Coventry. He joined the Sky Blues during the summer transfer window and has gone on to become a mainstay in the starting eleven. The 19-year-old has gone on to play 32 games in all competitions for the club, picking up five assists in League One along the way.

The 2018/19 season has been Sterling’s first full campaign of senior football. The youngster has worked his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea since joining in 2007 at the age of eight. He has played 40 games for the club’s Under-23s side, picking up four goals and four assists. Sterling has also played for the club’s Under-18s side 22 times, collecting seven goals.

The right-back has played two times for the club’s first team, coming off the bench in both appearances. He made a substitute appearance for Chelsea in the FA Cup, also coming on as a substitute in the EFL Cup to make his debut in a 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
