Sheffield Wednesday plotting move for ex-Celtic and Newcastle United defender

Sheffield Wednesday are plotting a summer move for Kilmarnock defender Stuart Findlay.

The 23-year-old has impressed for Steve Clarke’s side in the Scottish Premiership this season and could be rewarded with a move to the Owls in a couple of months’ time, according to the Daily Mail (pg 94, 15.4.19).

Steve Bruce has made some impact at Hillsborough since replacing Jos Luhukay at the helm and is still unbeaten. He has transformed them from mid-table to potential Play-Off contenders with 10 games to play this season.

There is no doubt that the former Sunderland, Hull City and Aston Villa boss will want to bring in some players this summer as well as offload some to help put his own stamp on Wednesday.

Stuart Findlay is a potential incoming player. The 23-year-old has played 26 games in all competitions for Kilmarnock this season and has chipped in with three goals.

He started his career at Celtic and rose up through the youth ranks of the Glasgow giants. Findlay never made a senior appearance for the Hoops but enjoyed first-team experience out on loan at Greenock Morton, Dumbarton and Kilmarnock.

Findlay was released by Celtic in 2016 and joined Newcastle United on a free transfer. He played once for the Toon before moving back to Kilmarnock on loan last season, where he played 36 times.

Killie then made his move there permanent last summer and he has turned out to be a useful signing for them. A move back down the border to Sheffield could now be on the cards for Findlay though with the Owls lurking.
