It has been revealed by the Bristol Post that Bristol City have the option to extend the contract of highly sought after youngster Antoine Semenyo by a further year.
Bristol City youngster Antoine Semenyo is contracted with the Championship club until the end of the 2019/2020 season, the Bristol Post has revealed.
There had been concerns regarding Semenyo’s immediate future. It was believed that Bristol City could have been forced into selling the youngster to avoid the risk of losing him on the cheap. However, now that it has been revealed that he is on a contract in 2020, the club are now under no pressure to cash in on the youngster.
Interest has been growing in the 19-year-old. Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea were both linked with moves for the young attacker during the January transfer window, but reports failed to materialise into anything serious.
The London-born forward joined Bristol City in 2017 and is being tipped for a big future by the Championship side. They handed him his senior debut on the final day of last season in their Championship fixture against Sheffield United in which they lost 3-2.
Semenyo spent time on loan in non-league in the last campaign with Bath City and scored six goals in nine games for the National League South side. Bristol City then opted to loan him out again for this season for him to get more of a taste of senior football as opposed to playing youth football.
They sent him on loan to Newport County, where he made a good impression on supporters, bagging three goals and providing two assists.
However, the Robins made the decision to bring him back to Ashton Gate during the January transfer window. Since his return from his loan spell in Wales, Semenyo has made two Championship appearances, starting in a 1-0 defeat to title chasers Leeds United.
