Frank Lampard discusses Derby County players’ expiring contracts and possible new deals

Frank Lampard has been answering questions about what the club plan to do regarding Derby County’s out of contract players at the end of the season.

At the end of the season, Derby County have several first-team players out of contract. Manager Frank Lampard has said that the club has “a lot of work to do” ahead of the summer.

Goalkeeper Kelle Roos – who has found himself in the starting eleven due to injury to Scott Carson – has been in negotiations with the club over the past month with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Midfielders Tom Huddlestone, Bradley Johnson and Craig Bryson are also out of contract at the end of the season. The Rams have the option to extend Huddlestone’s deal by another 12 months, while Scottish side Kilmarnock have made an approach for Bryson on a pre-contract basis.

Martin Olsson and David Nugent’s contracts will run out at the end of the season, while loaned out trio Jacob Butterfield, Alex Pearce and Nick Blackman are also out of contract at the end of this campaign.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Lampard has been discussing the club’s out of contract players, insisting that he wants his players to focus on the season’s remaining games.

“We are a particular club at the moment. We have, I think, seven out of contract in the summer and we know we have spoken a lot about addressing the balance financially at the club, so there will be a lot of work to do for everyone.

“The important thing from my point of view, and theirs is that’s for the summer. What’s important is the 10 games in between.

“What is important for me is that the players themselves handle that in the right way. I understand it, I was in that position in my latter years at Chelsea.

“With the professionals, I have got here I hope that they will knuckle down and give their everything for this club, and I am sure they will do and everything will become clear.”
