Brentford make contact with German side over move for defensive starlet

According to a report from German news outlet Bild, Championship outfit Brentford have made contact with the advisers of Hamburger SV youngster Josha Vagnoman over recent months.

Brentford are taking an interest in Hamburger SV starlet Josha Vagnoman, German news outlet Bild has reported.

The Championship outfit are not alone in their interest in the 18-year-old, however, Premier League duo Newcastle United and Fulham are both keen on the defender. Newcastle United were interested in Vagnoman during the previous summer transfer window, lodging an offer of £4.6 million for the youngster, according to the Hamburger Morgenpost.

However, the Bundesliga 2. side managed to fend off Newcastle’s interest in the young German to hold onto him for the 2018/19 season. But, with interest growing in Vagnoman once again, they could be set for another fight to hold onto him.

Vagnoman has been with Hamburger SV since the age of just 10, joining up with the academy at the German side in 2010. After working his way through the youth ranks at the club, he made his senior debut for the club last March, coming off the bench in a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

So far this season, Vagnoman has played nine times in all competitions, playing at both left-back and right-back as Hamburg look to make their way back into the German top flight at the first time of asking.

He has also represented Germany at three different youth levels. Vagnoman has played three times for the country’s Under-17s, once for the Under-18s and twice for the Under-19s.
