Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has revealed that centre-back Tommy Elphick is set to miss the next four to five weeks through a heel injury.
Speaking to Aston Villa’s official club website, manager Dean Smith has said that Tommy Elphick is set to miss around a month of football after suffering a heel injury in their 4-0 win over Derby County at the weekend.
Elphick was substituted with 67 minutes of the game gone, hobbling off the pitch with the score at 4-0.
Manager Dean Smith provided an update on Elphick’s injury on Tuesday, revealing he will miss about a month of action.
“The problem is in the heel – it’s a small tear of the plantar fascia,” Smith said.
“He will probably be out for four or five weeks, I would think.
“It’s not great for him. It’s not great for us. It’s an area that’s looked really strong over the past three or four weeks and then all of a sudden you lose Tommy Elphick and you lose Alan Hutton and it looks a little bit sparse again.
“But Tyrone Mings is playing well. Kortney Hause is playing well. We have Mile Jedinak who can play there, too. Neil Taylor is coming back from illness, also, so we have enough players that can play.”
Elphick has nailed down a place in the first team at Aston Villa since his early return from his loan spell a Hull City. He has played in every single Championship game apart from one since his arrival back at Villa Park.
He will be expected to return in early April, in time to try and help Villa finish off the season in impressive fashion.
