Rotherham United midfielder keen to make loan move permanent at the end of the season

Rotherham United’s loaned in midfielder Richie Towell has said that he is keen to join The Millers on a permanent basis this summer after a permanent switch fell through in the January window.

Rotherham United midfielder Richie Towell is looking to join the club permanently this summer when his loan deal from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion comes to an end at the close of this season.

Towell has been enjoying his time at the New York Stadium, featuring frequently in Paul Warne’s side throughout this season. The Irishman has made 22 appearances in the middle of the park so far this season, picking up four goals and two assists so far.

Now, speaking to the Sheffield Star, he has reiterated that he is keen to make his move to Rotherham permanent this summer.

“I’d definitely like that to happen,” Towell said when asked if he would like to join the club permanently.

“I love it here. I’ve always enjoyed my time here. I love playing under this manager and with this group of players. It’s a good place to be.

“I’m living in Leeds, which is a nice city. There’s a real feel-good factor here. It’s a nice place to come in to train every day.”

Towell went on to discuss his frustration at the failure of his permanent January move to the Championship side and is hoping that the breakdown of his transfer does not repeat itself this summer

“For one thing or another, it just didn’t work out in January,”

“It was unfortunate because I would have liked to have got things done. I was disappointed it didn’t happen. I’m out of contract at Brighton at the end of the season. I have a young family and another baby on the way, so it’s not ideal to be out of contract at the end of the season. “

“I’m the type of person who just gets on with it. I work as hard as I can every single day and hopefully if I keep putting in performances like that against Wednesday the gaffer here will try to sign me again in the summer.”
