Derby County have completed the signing of Nigerian international defender Efe Ambrose on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old has joined the Rams on a short-term deal until the end of the season, as confirmed by their official club website today.
Ambrose left Scottish Premiership side Hibernian last month and has been weighing up his options ever since.
He had previously played for Scottish giants Celtic where he played over 150 games and helped the Glasgow side win the league, Scottish Cup and League Cup.
Derby have been in the hunt for a defender as back-up/competition for Fikayo Tomori and Richard Keogh and have found their man now.
The Rams’ boss Frank Lampard is pleased to have secured his signature and has said, as per Derby’s official club website: “Efe is an experienced central defender and he gives us another option in that particular area. We’re pleased to welcome him on board for the rest of the season“.
Ambrose has said Lampard is a key reason why he has made the move to Pride Park: “I’ve known Lampard since he was at Chelsea as a player, and he has been my hero and someone I’ve always enjoyed watching play football. ”

Solid signing. Need cover there, not too sure he's any better than Pearce though… #dcfc https://t.co/3jF1cMkBM4

Smart Move getting in Efe Ambrose, glad it’s only a short term deal so we don’t need to carry anymore potential deadwood next season #dcfc
