Robbie Willmott is looking to repay the faith Newport County have shown in him.

His impressive performances in the FA Cup against Leicester City and Middlesbrough have earned him a new contract until 2021, as per a report by the South Wales Argus.

Willmott has said: “I’m more than happy to stay for the next two-and-a-half years. It’s probably been one of the easiest contracts to sort out during my career. Obviously, I had the option to run down my contract until the summer”.

“But I made it clear that I wanted to stay. I’m settled on and off the pitch. The people who run the club – the chairman, the gaffer and the directors – have been superb with me. They brought me back from non-league and hopefully I’m repaying them now.”

He also added: “I’m not one of these players that gets ahead of themselves and flies in with a transfer request at the first sign of interest. I don’t believe in that. The club has been superb to me. I think there’s a long way to go before it happens but, if there was a bid, it’s out of my hands”.

Next up for Willmott and Newport in the FA Cup is a tie against Manchester City.

The 28-year-old is vastly experienced and has played just under 400 games so far in his career. He has previously played for the likes of Cambridge United, Luton Town, Ebbsfleet United, Eastleigh, Bishop’s Stortford and Chelmsford City.
