Ward hobbled off the pitch with just under 20 minutes remaining. Posh ‘keeper Conor O’Malley kicked the ball out of play in order for him to recieve treatment. However’ Doncaster – in unsportsmanlike fashion – took the throw-in and almost instantly went onto score thanks to former Posh man Kieran Sadlier.

It was first feared that Ward was set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with BBC Cambridgeshire Sport posting on Twitter that he had suffered a suspected broken ankle.

However, Ward has seemingly ruled out worries of a broken ankle and he will be looking to be involved in Posh’s next game, as they face Oxford United this weekend.

The news will come as music to Darren Ferguson’s ears. Ward has been a crucial part of Peterborough United’s side so far this season. He featured heavily under previous manager Steve Evans after being signed by Grant McCann. The former Woking man has proved his versatility by playing at right-back when required.

Ward has played in all but one of Posh’s League games this season, as he was an unused substitute in a 4-2 victory over Gillingham back in September. He has played a massive 40 games in all competitions, providing four goals and three assists along the way as well.
