Loan club keen to seal permanent signing of Leeds United striker flop

According to Turkish news outlet Takvim, Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor are keen to sign Leeds United loanee Caleb Ekuban on a permanent basis before the end of the season.

Turkish website Takvim writes that Trabzonspor are keen to reward Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban with a permanent deal before the end of the season, after impressing during his loan spell with the Turkish side so far this season.

Ekuban was one of many players to make his way out of the club in the summer transfer window, as Marcelo Bielsa cleared the deadwood out of the squad ahead of the Championship season. He wasn’t given a squad number under Bielsa and ultimately, he made his way to Trabzonspor on loan.

The Italy-born striker was sent on loan to the Turkish side after failing to make an impression at Elland Road in his first campaign in the Championship. In 21 appearances in all competitions, Ekuban scored just two goals, leaving him way down the pecking order upon the arrival of Bielsa.

The striker has become a fan favourite with Trabzonspor since joining last summer. So far this season, the Ghanaian striker has scored seven goals in 21 appearances. Only four goals have come in the Turkish Super Lig in 15 appearances, but despite his average goal record, he has impressed supporters.

In January, Ekuban said that he was keen to make his stay in Turkey permanent when speaking to Turkish radio station Haber61. He said:

“Coming here was the best decision in my life. The club wants to keep me. I also aim to stay.”
