Stoke City closing in on £3.5 million move for Wolves defender

Stoke City are closing in on a £3.5 million deal for Wolves defender Danny Batth, according to the Express and Star.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Middlesbrough and has played 13 games for them in all competitions this season.

Stoke are looking to bring in a couple of signings before the transfer deadline on Thursday as their new boss Nathan Jones wants to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad.

The former Luton Town manager has targeted Batth as someone who can tighten up his defence. The Potters have been leaking goals this season and Jones has made signing a new central defender a priority.

Batth, who has been on the books at Wolves since the age of 15, made 21 appearances for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side who won the Championship title last season. However, he is not part of their plans in the Premier League, hence why he left to join Boro and is now close to leaving permanently for Stoke.

The 6ft 3inc defender has played over 300 games for the Midlands side and has also helped them win the League One title in 2014.

Batth has also enjoyed loan spells away from Molinuex at Colchester United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.

His move to Middlesbrough has not really worked out for him and he has not nailed down a regular starting position at Tony Pulis’ side. However, a move to Stoke would be a great move for him and a chance to write a new chapter in his career.
