The striker arrived at Bramall Lane on a free transfer from fellow Championship side Ipswich Town, only signing a short term deal. However, after a solid start to life in Sheffield, McGoldrick has been rewarded with a new deal with Chris Wilder’s promotion hopefuls.
The 31-year-old has settled into life brilliantly at his new side. He has formed a strong partnership with fellow striker Billy Sharp. McGoldrick has scored 10 goals and picked up three assists in 28 Championship games while Sharp has notched up 16 League goals, making him the league’s joint-second top scorer.
Prior to his move up north, McGoldrick had spent five years playing at Portman Road with Ipswich Town. In 159 games, the Irishman scored 45 goals and provided 25 assists. Now, he has become a fan favourite at Sheffield United, pleasing manager Chris Wilder.
“David came in on a short-term deal but has been outstanding for us in the first half of the season and we are confident he will continue producing,” Wilder told the club website.
“His goals have been vital, but his general contribution, including excellent link-up play, has been fantastic. He has made a vital contribution to the club, on and off the field, and we are delighted to reward him.”
