West Brom have launched a move for Houston Dynamo forward Alberth Elis, according to Football Insider.
The Baggies are looking to beat Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to his signature this month.
Elis, who is 22 years-old, has caught the eye in the Major League Soccer over the past two seasons and could be rewarded with a switch to the Hawthorns.
Darren Moore is keen on bolstering his squad before the transfer deadline as he looks to ahead to the promotion run-in. West Brom are also looking to replace Harvey Barnes, who was recalled by Leicester City earlier this month, and Elis could fit the bill.
Elis joined Houston Dynamo in March 2017 from Mexican side Monterray initially on loan and immediately impressed. He scored 11 goals in his first season in the MLS and Houston made his move permanent in December 2017.
He then managed another 11 goals in their 2018 campaign and further boosted his reputation in America. Elis has also gained 28 caps for Honduras having previously represented his country as a youngster at U20 and U21 level earlier in his career.
The forward started out at Honduran side Olimpia and was prolific for them. He scored 30 goals in 72 games altogether in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras. Moterray signed him in August 2016 but he made just a handful appearances.
Elis would be an interesting signing by West Brom and he would be an unknown quantity in the Championship. Can he fill the void left by Harvey Barnes’ departure?
