Brentford star set to buzz off from Bees amid £13m Premier League transfer interest

According to the Mail Online, Brentford defender Chris Mepham is on his way to the Premier League after being missing from Brentford’s victory over Rotherham.

Mail Online say that Mepham’s upcoming and imminent move to Bournemouth is one priced at an initial £13m. It is also a fee that will develop further with add-ons and incentives.

21-year-old, Hammersmith-born Mepham came up through the youth system at Brentford. His consistent displays have seen a rise in his value, and have obviously brought about interest such as that being shown by the likes of Southampton.

The youngster has featured in 22 Sky Bet Championship games for Brentford during this 2018/19 campaign, contributing the one assist. These 22 games come as part of the 43 Championship games that he has featured in for the Bees since being promoted to the first-team set-up in 2017.

Brentford currently find themselves treading water at the wrong end of the Sky Bet Championship table. Yesterday’s 4-2 win away at Rotherham has them heading in the right direction.

Whilst not an ideal situation, Brentford losing a key player such as Mepham, the incoming funds will allow the Bees to look at restructuring during the January transfer window.

This is a transfer window that still has 11 days left to run and will no doubt be one that sees many twists and turns yet.

The Bees next game is against fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday. Their travels to South Yorkshire will be travels where they look to continue their recent good form, the Londoners being unbeaten in their last six games.

However, it looks increasingly likely that it will be a trip north without Chris Mepham in the travelling party.
