Sunderland weighing up move for transfer listed Reading striker

League One side Sunderland are being linked with a move for Reading’s out of favour striker Marc McNulty, the Reading Chronicle is reporting.

Reading striker Marc McNulty is on the radar of League One automatic promotion chasers Sunderland, according to the Reading Chronicle.

McNulty is one of the names on the transfer list at the Madjeski Stadium, as new manager Jose Gomes looks to make changes to his squad ahead of the second half of the Championship season. David Meyler and Vito Mannone are also still on the transfer list, after Dave Edwards joined Shrewsbury shortly after he was named on the transfer list.

Sunderland are looking to make a move for the attacker as manager Jack Ross looks to bolster his attacking options as the Black Cats head into an automatic promotion dogfight in the second half of the season.

26-year-old striker McNulty joined Reading in the summer for a fee of £1 million, after impressing in a season-long spell with then League Two side Coventry. The Edinburgh-born striker was the second top scorer in League Two behind Accrington Stanley’s Billy Kee as Coventry won promotion back to the third tier of English football via the Play-Offs.

McNulty scored an impressive 28 goals in 52 games in all competitions for the Sky Blues, catching the eye of Reading. However, he has failed to emulate the form that saw him catch the eye of The Royals. The former Nottingham Forest man has scored just once in 15 games in all competitions so far and his spell with Reading is set to come to an end sooner rather than later.
